Kathryn Stanley Sinclair Children's Center

"Helping children to achieve their greatest potential, one child at a time."

Established in 1993 in the deep East Texas town of Woodville, the Sinclair Center was designed to serve young children.  The rural setting provides a relaxed atmosphere where children can flourish and work to resolve difficulties, which have made inpatient residential care the treatment plan of choice for them.

The Sinclair Children's Center is licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and has a total capacity of thirty children, including both boys and girls.  Intake is limited to children between the ages of five (5) and twelve (12).  Children do not automatically age out at thirteen (13), but an evaluation of the continued appropriateness of our setting is conducted.

The Children's Center serves multi-handicapped boys and girls who have varied disabilities including mental retardation, emotional disturbance, learning disabilities, histories of abuse or neglect and other health impairments.

Our location in the piney woods of East Texas, not far from Houston, Galveston, and Beaumont, affords many opportunities for both outdoor recreation and cultural enhancement.  As their functioning allows, community sponsored activities such as Little League Baseball and Little Dribblers Basketball are available to our residents.

Services Provided Include:

~Residential services composed of a therapeutic milieu, with caring, trained child care staff who supervise 24 hours a day and administer a system of designed rewards and consequences within a level system.  The Level System determines the degree of freedom to participate in center activities.

~A board certified child psychiatrist who prescribes and monitors necessary medications and consultation.

~Psychological services and consultation provided by referral to licensed Ph.D. Psychologist.

~Psychotherapeutic services provided by licensed master degreed therapist.

~Educational services provided by Woodville Independent School District.  These include services in on-campus facilities, and, when child's functioning permits, public school classrooms.

~Local Physicians and our local hospital provide routine medical care.  Referrals of more difficult medical problems are made to specialist in Beaumont, Galveston, and Houston.

Many children have been hard to place because of their difficulties in the home and school settings.  Treatment may last from a few months to a few years, the average length of treatment being 18 months.

Sinclair Children's Center does not accept children with homicidal tendencies or with severe addiction disorders, unless they have participated in a detoxification program of sufficient duration.  We also exclude children who are incapable of performing simple self-help skills.
