Ruthi Ramsey, M.A.

Ruthi Ramsey is the Disability Navigator at Workforce Solutions Capital Area and has seven years experience working with people with disabilities in educational and employment related capacities. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University followed by a Masters Degree in Communication. As a participant with AmeriCorps*VISTA, Rathi moved to Austin in 2007 to work for Imagine Art, a local faith based non-profit for artists with disabilities. During her employment tenure Rathi helped develop their Supported Employment program. Since then she has worked as a WIA Program Specialist for Workforce Solutions and recently began piloting the Disability Navigator position for the Capital Area.

 

Session Topic:

“Navigating the Maze:  A Workforce Solution to job seeking with a disability”

Navigating the maze of job seeking with a disability can be tough. This presentation will discuss how Workforce Solutions and other local community agencies and services can help you secure and maintain competitive employment.  go to work.  Specific topics to be covered during the session will include the following:

:

      What is a disability?

      How can Workforce Solutions help me get a job?

      What accessibility options are available?

      Do I have to tell an employer that I have a disability?

      What is Schedule A hiring, and how do I apply?

      Will work affect my Social Security benefits?

      What other resources are available for me in the community?

 

Participants will be encouraged to ask questions throughout the session.
