1327 Lamar Square Drive                   Austin, Texas 78704

June 9, 2009 (Tuesday) ~   7:00  to 8:30 p.m.

Program Topic:  COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Participants will learn all about the most commonly used community resources in Austin, Travis County and Texas (names, locations, services provided and eligibility requirements). Participants will also discover some of the not so well known organizations that should be able to assist many of those attending the session.

Guest Speaker:  Felix Briones - MLF Benefits Case Manager

After Felix survived a major stroke he decided he would begin helping people instead of helping build houses.  Felix call to help others was amplified after personally experiencing an array of difficulties in not only accessing needed assistance but just finding out that these organizations even existed.  Felix is known as one of THE BEST Case Managers in the City of Austin and recently received special recognition by Texas A & M University for his distinguished services to others.

Guest Speaker:  Chip Howe - MLF Admissions Coordinator

Chip has over 30 years experience in the mental health field specializing in Human Resources, Cognitive Therapy, Program Development and Quality Assurance.  Appointed by the Austin City Council, Chip currently serves as the Senior Commissioner on the Austin Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities and is an active member of the Society for Cognitive Rehabilitation, the Brain Injury Association of Texas and the Texas Rehabilitation Action Network.  Chip also received the distinguished National Leadership Award presented by the Brain Injury Association of America.

Food Pantry

Good nutrition is necessary, but very expensive. Mary Lee residents typically live on $500-$700/month disability payments. $1 buys at least $4 worth of food for the Mary Lee Food Pantry.
