Topic – Community Resources, Recreation & Upcoming Conferences
Community Resources:
A review of available community recourse will be provided with emphasis on those recently added to the Mary Lee Foundation’s Resource Guidebook. Participants will also receive a brief overview of the recently published 47 page document: The Brain Injury Handbook – 2011 (an introductory guide to understanding brain injury for vocational rehabilitation purposes) developed by the Brain Injury Association of Oregon. An electronic copy will be sent to all participants.
Recreational Opportunities: Participants will learn where to find recreational activities in Austin that are accessible and either free of charge or have a low cost entrance fee.
Upcoming Conferences: A brief review of upcoming educational conferences and routine monthly meetings of interest will be provided.
Guest Speaker: Chip Howe, M.A.
Having worked for the Mary Lee Foundation for over 25 years, Chip currently serves as the Admissions Coordinator for the Rehabilitation Center, which specializes in Traumatic Brain Injury. Chip obtained his BA Degree in Psychology at UT and his MA Degree in Child Psychology at Incarnate Word College. Appointed by the Austin City Council, Chip serves as a Commissioner on the Austin Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities.
